We have by request shortened the script so it will fit into the 2 minute span our opening will last. This will mean our plot device no longer is going to be included in our plans: Script:Opening:We see a black screen with the title and credits. We hear tensioned string music. As the black screen fades to a scenery showing the outskirts of a forest, the music suddenly stops and is substituted by the sound of a distant, echoing gunshot. This is soon followed by the sound of a crow (Representing a bad omen)We will need sound effects as well as a tune to play at the credit screen.Part one: The woodsThe scene starts with showing various of shaky slow-motioned close-up shots of the main character as he runs through a forest. You can hear him panting and emphasized noises from the branches and the leaves he runs through. To make this work we will use a hand-held camera. We then change the angle to see him from the front, running towards the camera. As he runs past it the camera will follow him down to a road where he turns around just in time to see the light from a car the . By the time the camera will follow him to the road, it will slow down and the sound effects will become muffled before his figure evaporates in the light. We will insert the sound of the car braking. This shot will be difficult, as we will need a tripod, a deserted road and wire to make the camera follow the main character smoothly. We will also need someone to drive the car. For the light effect we will need to use a video editing program such as Adobe Aftereffects.Part two: Hospital - The Nurse(Possibly a great time jump)The sound of the car braking keeps echoing as it forms a smooth transition to the next scene. You see a close-up of the main character as he lies in a bed. The sheets are white and the lightning is very bright. With a gasp he starts and opens his eyes, looking around. There are signs of healing wounds on his forehead. You see him from a corner by the bed as he sits up with his back turned to the camera. The only sounds that can be heard are those which the bed makes. The sound of distant footsteps slowly fades in and he turns his head slightly to the side as reaction. The sound of footsteps is now much louder and you see the close-up of a tray held by a woman. On the tray there is some food and water. You now see the man's sitting body in front view, his head still turned slightly to the side. Behind him you see a door opening, and soon the woman -- A nurse, holding the tray appears in the door frame and the footsteps pauses.Main character: Where am I?Nurse: "At a hospital."
The camera looks back at the main character (Joe) from nurse p.o.v.
For this we will only need a tripod to rest the camera on, and possibly an effect to make the light at the start seem stronger that it normally would. We will have to get make-up, possibly borrow a room at an actual hospital as well as a nurse and patient outfit. If this is not possible we will find other alternatives or possibly rewrite this scene so i's setting is different.

thriller movie

Our Idea

It will be set in Bourne woods, and it will start in a point of view shot and we can see the person running through the forest, like they are running away from something, and they are panting heavily like they are scared of something, and at the same time the credits are running over and there is horror like, tension creating music. The credits will be in a bold strange font and they will most likely roll onto the screen. Once the credits have finished rolling the screen will go black for about five seconds and the music will stop, then the boy will wake up in a psychiatric unit, he jumps up scared, as it becomes clear to the audience that he has been dreaming, but the dream was a flashback. Once he wakes up, he looks around the room and he is out of breath as he was scared, and a nurse comes into the room, and tells him to calm down and she gives him some pills to take, and she wipes his face with a cloth as he is sweating, she says something to him that is reassuring and along the lines of 'remember if you want to get out of here soon then you need to stay on good behaviour and stop screaming out in the middle of the night.

I am not sure yet where the psychiatric scene will be shot, or how we will get the equipment, but we can have a room, that should be white, and all we need in it is a bed, with white covers and nothing else in the room to give it that psychiatric isolated feeling. The nurse doesn't exactly need to have a nurses uniform on, she can be wearing plain white clothes, and the tablets will obviously be some sort of sweets like Tic Tacs, and he will get them from a white plastic cup. In the forest scene we do not see anyone, we just hear everything instead, and that gives it the strange alone feeling.

The camera shots used are the following: point of view shot, close up shots, long distance shots.

presentation of ideas

i did the powerpoint of potential fim ideas, i did two of them and sam thought of part of one of them. I then made the powerpoint and i performed it by myself as my group did not turn up on the day of prformance. I performed it and the class as well as me thought that the first idea about someone running through a forest and waking up in a psychiatric unit was the best one. I think that i performed this task very well considering i did it all by myself. Rebecca had not been there all week.

preliminary task

my group completed our preliminary task on monday and i believe that it was succesful. I was the camera woman as i videoed it all and sam and Rebecca acted in it. We did it in the art room and down that corriador. We took 6 takes o each shot so that we have plenty of footage to work from for our editing. I think that it went very well the only problems were that we could't find what corriador to use and sam who was in charge of the cast, didnt actually get any so we just had to use them to, so overall i think that it went quite well.

thriller movies summary

thriller movies always seem to have the same layout of sound effects and camera work. For example in both Psycho and Dead calm the opening credits were white against a black screen and there was music on both of them, the camera work is usually the same as well with panning and the close up and long shots.

Dead Calm

  • black background- white opening credits over it, credits get bigger

  • quite spooky music

  • close up camera work on the mans face as he is looking for someone

  • point of view angle as the camera pans over the crowd, it looks distorted

  • music is still in background

  • it is dark and raining (typical thriller setting)

  • fades into different scenes something is going to happen.

  • when the woman sings the lullaby in the car it is echoey and that makes it obvious that

  • when baby flies out of the car it is really blurry

  • the scenes are confusing, they all seem to blend in to each other

  • it is set at christmas time which is meant to be a happy family time, but in this movie it is tragic as baby has just been killed.

All of these are typical points in a thriller movie that allow the audience to recognise the genre of the film.

Seven

  • Starts with morgan freeman in his house getting ready, it is dark and very silent (typical thriller setting)

  • as he switches his light of the scene switches to the house of a crime scene, a man was killed by his wife, it is also very dark and gloomy in there too, not much dialogue.

  • another cop- brad pitt arrives on the set and he is dressed in a dark coat and looks very dark himself.

  • As they go out it is raining and that is a typical thriller poin

  • as the two are talking there is a low angle shot and it is incredibly dark and the talking is quite

  • back at morgans house it is completely silent except from the incredibly loud ticking of a clock like instrument.

  • as soon as it is finished ticking the screen goes black and then all of a sudden a deep base type of music starts, at the same time the opening credits begin and behind them we can see a man with many different things and it looks like he is getting rid of his finger prints. In the music there is also noises of screetching.

  • Once that finishes it switches onto the next scene which is also dark and gloomy, it is Brad and Gwynth in bed, and he tries not to wake her, so it is very silent but then the phone rings and it seems very loud.

  • scene switches and Brad is stood outside and yet again it is raining

  • morgan, brad and another cop make their way to another crime scene.

  • they go in and it is very dark, with echoey music in the background.

  • a large guy is found dead, (greed)

All of that makes it obvious that it is a thriller as all of them are points of a typical thriller movie, as it has to be dark and raining is a good weather condition because if it was sunny it wouldnt' really look much like a thriller. The sound effects are also very important as they can make the audience jump or help with the unexpeceted.

Fear is forbidden

  • starts of with a couple of friends taking a road trip, it is dark and they are driving near a forest, we know this as there is a long shot to begin with, then it goes into the car and uses alot of point of view shots to the characters looking at one another, and arguing.

  • their car suddenly breaks down in the middle of nowhere, and they have to get out, then strange noises are made, like echoing and typical thriller noises.

  • All the friends decide to go in the forest as they see a light, it is still dark, they then find a place to sit down, and the music starts.

  • The music is very different to other horror music beginnings, it was a bit like james bond style. There was a black screen, a the shape of women dancing around, but they are the colour of blood and it shows you many little clips from the movie. The credits are written in white .There is a song going on that sounds very mysterious.

This movie is a bollywood thriller but yet is still potrays all of the typical thriller features, its openining lets you be aware that it is a thriler and the fact that screaming starts when the music begins, that just adds to the intence feeling.

As you can see from the accounts of these three movies, nearly all thrillers have the same things in common, they are all dark, all have strange sound effects, all include rain and stormy weather and they all effect you on some psychological level. Without these things it is not really a thriller movie, because this is the one genre of movie that you can put all of those points in.

in mondays lesson

Today in the lesson me and my group started planning for the Plinimary Task. I came up with alot of ideas about camera angles that will be used and when. I also written out the task into my documents.

music video

The video that i have chosen is Ride It, by JAY SEAN. There are alot of good and effective shots in this video. There are plenty of close ups into his face and into his love interests face. When he sings in the corridor there are long shots so that you can see all of him, the lighting is also very dim then. When the woman and her friends do the solo dancing there is a mid shot being used so that you can see all of them clearly. It is a very effective video as the camera shots change with the beat of the music. Panning is used in this video a little bit as well, but not as much as other effects.

video is on you tube- jay sean- ride it

my own film idea- mise-en-scene

My film will be a romance rated 15, and it the plot will be as follows. It is set in the 1700's and takes place in a small town outside of London. Florence Bloom is a seventeen year old girl who lives just with her father, who is a clocksman, and she helps him and takes care of the house. Her life is plain and ordinary, until one day at the market, when she trips over someone. When she looks up she sees the handsome Andre Cordai, the son of a rich govener. As soon as their eyes hit each other they knew they were meant to be together. But after a few steamy encounters they know they can not be due to the laws of the land, which forbid the rich to marry the poor. He moves away to resist the temptation and marries, she also marries.

Three years later they both meet again in mysterious cricumstances, and even though they are both happily married with children they can not resist each other. So they have an affair, which only ends in disastor, as their partners find out and force them to be punished for their sins. They both get locked away in seperate parts of the country for five years. They find it hard, but their love for each other is what keeps them going. When Florence finally gets out she searches everywhere for Sndre, but no one will let on anything about him, until three months later when she finds his old friend, and he tells her that she is in france. So Florence gets a boat to france and when she finally finds him he is living in a large house, with a maid, and she finds out that he is paralysed, due to falling of a horse, who ironically he named Florence. So Florence stays with him to look after him for the rest of her life, even though he cannot move or talk.

This films will be shot in colour, but the colours used will all be old fashioned and so will the clothes worn e.g. black suits for the men, grey dresses and hats for most of the women, and a bit of colour for the rich women. There will be alot of grass and green scenery around as it is a quite town. The actors in the movie will be:

Florence Bloom- Scarlett Johansson

Andre Cordai- Chad Michael Murrey

(florence father)Steve Bloom- Tom Hanks

Florence Children- Abigail Breslin and Sloan Momsen

Andres child- Shane Kisman

Florence husband- Paul Walker

Andres Wife- Kate Winslet

There will be a reasonable amount of lighting in the movie, and alot of it will look like natural light (from the sun), in them days there were no actual lights so there can not be any signs of artificial light, anywhere. All of the transport around the town will either be walking or horse and carriage, or just horses, as there are no cars. The houses are all made from grey stone, there are no bricks in the houses. The movie will be very good and always old fashioned which means that no new props or gadgets can be used in it. Over all that is the mis-en-scene for my movie.

media- Movie scene

The movie that i am going to be comenting on is sin City and a scene from the begining. It is in a black and white camera effect and from a long distance camera shot we see a woman with a dark red dress on standing on top of a building and we hear a mans voice over talking (Josh Hartnett) The camera pans around the woman for about a minute and then it zooms in a little bit and turns around to reveal him walking up to her in a medium shot. The camera is at a face on angle, as we see Josh talking to the woman and trying to what looks like seduce her. But as the camera slowly zooms out it goes dark and then we hear and sort of see the man shoot her. All this is used to create a mysterious scene and it all looks very artistic but it is really about death and the camera angles and the shots really suit well with this.
