presentation of ideas

i did the powerpoint of potential fim ideas, i did two of them and sam thought of part of one of them. I then made the powerpoint and i performed it by myself as my group did not turn up on the day of prformance. I performed it and the class as well as me thought that the first idea about someone running through a forest and waking up in a psychiatric unit was the best one. I think that i performed this task very well considering i did it all by myself. Rebecca had not been there all week.

preliminary task

my group completed our preliminary task on monday and i believe that it was succesful. I was the camera woman as i videoed it all and sam and Rebecca acted in it. We did it in the art room and down that corriador. We took 6 takes o each shot so that we have plenty of footage to work from for our editing. I think that it went very well the only problems were that we could't find what corriador to use and sam who was in charge of the cast, didnt actually get any so we just had to use them to, so overall i think that it went quite well.

thriller movies summary

thriller movies always seem to have the same layout of sound effects and camera work. For example in both Psycho and Dead calm the opening credits were white against a black screen and there was music on both of them, the camera work is usually the same as well with panning and the close up and long shots.

Dead Calm

  • black background- white opening credits over it, credits get bigger

  • quite spooky music

  • close up camera work on the mans face as he is looking for someone

  • point of view angle as the camera pans over the crowd, it looks distorted

  • music is still in background

  • it is dark and raining (typical thriller setting)

  • fades into different scenes something is going to happen.

  • when the woman sings the lullaby in the car it is echoey and that makes it obvious that

  • when baby flies out of the car it is really blurry

  • the scenes are confusing, they all seem to blend in to each other

  • it is set at christmas time which is meant to be a happy family time, but in this movie it is tragic as baby has just been killed.

All of these are typical points in a thriller movie that allow the audience to recognise the genre of the film.

Seven

  • Starts with morgan freeman in his house getting ready, it is dark and very silent (typical thriller setting)

  • as he switches his light of the scene switches to the house of a crime scene, a man was killed by his wife, it is also very dark and gloomy in there too, not much dialogue.

  • another cop- brad pitt arrives on the set and he is dressed in a dark coat and looks very dark himself.

  • As they go out it is raining and that is a typical thriller poin

  • as the two are talking there is a low angle shot and it is incredibly dark and the talking is quite

  • back at morgans house it is completely silent except from the incredibly loud ticking of a clock like instrument.

  • as soon as it is finished ticking the screen goes black and then all of a sudden a deep base type of music starts, at the same time the opening credits begin and behind them we can see a man with many different things and it looks like he is getting rid of his finger prints. In the music there is also noises of screetching.

  • Once that finishes it switches onto the next scene which is also dark and gloomy, it is Brad and Gwynth in bed, and he tries not to wake her, so it is very silent but then the phone rings and it seems very loud.

  • scene switches and Brad is stood outside and yet again it is raining

  • morgan, brad and another cop make their way to another crime scene.

  • they go in and it is very dark, with echoey music in the background.

  • a large guy is found dead, (greed)

All of that makes it obvious that it is a thriller as all of them are points of a typical thriller movie, as it has to be dark and raining is a good weather condition because if it was sunny it wouldnt' really look much like a thriller. The sound effects are also very important as they can make the audience jump or help with the unexpeceted.

Fear is forbidden

  • starts of with a couple of friends taking a road trip, it is dark and they are driving near a forest, we know this as there is a long shot to begin with, then it goes into the car and uses alot of point of view shots to the characters looking at one another, and arguing.

  • their car suddenly breaks down in the middle of nowhere, and they have to get out, then strange noises are made, like echoing and typical thriller noises.

  • All the friends decide to go in the forest as they see a light, it is still dark, they then find a place to sit down, and the music starts.

  • The music is very different to other horror music beginnings, it was a bit like james bond style. There was a black screen, a the shape of women dancing around, but they are the colour of blood and it shows you many little clips from the movie. The credits are written in white .There is a song going on that sounds very mysterious.

This movie is a bollywood thriller but yet is still potrays all of the typical thriller features, its openining lets you be aware that it is a thriler and the fact that screaming starts when the music begins, that just adds to the intence feeling.

As you can see from the accounts of these three movies, nearly all thrillers have the same things in common, they are all dark, all have strange sound effects, all include rain and stormy weather and they all effect you on some psychological level. Without these things it is not really a thriller movie, because this is the one genre of movie that you can put all of those points in.

in mondays lesson

Today in the lesson me and my group started planning for the Plinimary Task. I came up with alot of ideas about camera angles that will be used and when. I also written out the task into my documents.

music video

The video that i have chosen is Ride It, by JAY SEAN. There are alot of good and effective shots in this video. There are plenty of close ups into his face and into his love interests face. When he sings in the corridor there are long shots so that you can see all of him, the lighting is also very dim then. When the woman and her friends do the solo dancing there is a mid shot being used so that you can see all of them clearly. It is a very effective video as the camera shots change with the beat of the music. Panning is used in this video a little bit as well, but not as much as other effects.

video is on you tube- jay sean- ride it
